Who would have thought 2020 would be such a crazy year? There is just so much uncertainty and we’ve all been caught off-guard. Personally, I have been dealing with a lot of unknowns too, and it makes me feel uneasy. So I listed the things that are helping me through this time. Hopefully, it can help you find some sense of peace too.
- Focus on the things that you can control
In the grand scheme of things, as much as we try to deny it, we can only control a teeny tiny part of what happens in our lives. A lot of things are out of our hands, and if we try to dwell on these things, we’ll end up anxious and overwhelmed. Instead of thinking “what if this happens”, it would be more helpful to focus on the things that we can do. During these times when we’re in the middle of a pandemic, we can focus our actions in trying to stay healthy, boosting our immune system, and washing our hands. With unemployment on the rise, spend your energy updating your CV and looking for a job.
- Having a daily routine helps
With all the uncertainty that the future holds, it helps to have something constant, no matter how small. Whether it’s having that mug hot beverage in morning, or cleaning the kitchen at night, or doing an intricate skin care routine before going to bed – doing something constantly will help you anchor your days amidst the chaos.
- Find what’s good
Yes, things may be looking bleak now, but there are a lot of good things happening too! You’re forced to stay at home? Maybe now’s your chance to finally spend some quality time with your family. Lost your job? It’s an opportunity to do that passion project you’ve been putting off or learn a new skill. The good things may be small, but it can give you some happiness and something to be grateful for.
- Look at things objectively
When the future isn’t clear and anything can happen very quickly, we tend to exaggerate the bad things that might happen. At the same time, if the worst case scenario does happen, we belittle our ability to deal and cope with the situation. Have some faith in yourself and your abilities! Also, it doesn’t necessarily mean that bad things will happen just because life is uncertain. You never know, a nice surprise might just be around the corner.
- Feel free to take a break from social media
I have to say, social media can make me feel crappier that I should be. With all the negative (and fake) news on our feeds, trolls, bullies, etc. – of course there’s so much stress! So yes, it’s okay to log off and take a social media break.
Stay strong, friends! Lots of love and hugs to you 💜
